Shrubs are the perfect low-maintenance solution for adding beauty and interest to your garden. At Tanby Garden Centre, we offer a wide selection of shrubs suited to our Central Queensland climate, thriving in full sun with minimal watering.

The well known and loved Hibiscus is the ideal plant for adding some tropical colour to your garden. They thrive in a sunny position, but prefer to be protected from hot, dry winds. A rich, moist well drained soil is best. Mulch well and fertilise in Spring and prune to shape in late Winter.

The Summerscent is such a versatile evergreen, hardy plant that can be grown in full sun and is also shade tolerant. They produce delicate scented flowers mostly in Summer but known to flower from Spring to Autumn in warmer climates. It responds well to pruning into a hedge or grown into a small tree by trimming the stem and allowing it to branch out to approximately 3 metres tall.

Lagerstroemia is a beautiful ornamental deciduous shrub or small tree that produces stunning blooms throughout Summer. Grows in full sun or part shade in a moist, well draining soil. Mulch well to keep the root system cool and enrich the soil with organic matter as it breaks down. Prefers to be protected from hot, dry winds. Comes in a range of stunning colours and can reach a height of 3 metres.

The Scented Daphne is a large, evergreen shrub which the whole plant gets covered in masses of white, tubular, highly perfumed flowers. They are short lived but produce up to five times a year in tropical climates. All parts of this plant are poisonous including the bright red, egg shaped fruit. Keep well watered in the warm weather. Can reach between 3-5 metres high in the garden.
Xanthostemon chrysanthus (Fairhill Gold)

A bushy evergreen shrub which produces masses of bright yellow flowers in Autumn through to Spring. Makes a lovely specimen plant in the garden. Thrives in full sun or part shade and a well draining soil. Prune back after flowering to improve the shape of the tree. This bird attracting shrub can get to 3m high and spread up to 1.5m wide.
Plumeria pudica (Everlasting Love Frangipani)

This lovely shrub known for its unusual spoon-shaped, glossy green leaves and magnificent white flowers is a popular choice in local gardens. This evergreen shrub thrives in a sunny position in well drained soil. Keep the soil drier in Winter. Can get to 4-5 m tall and responds well to pruning to encourage branching. Staking is recommended while the plant is young.
Rondeletia leucophylla (Sweet Caprice)

A compact shrub that climatises well in most conditions and soil types. Well suited to cottage gardens, rockeries or pots. It produces masses of pink flowers throughout the year. Thrives in full sun and moist well drained soil. for best results prune back after flowering to maintain shape. Gets to 1m high and 75cm wide.
Nerium oleander (Oleander)

An evergreen medium to tall hardy shrub which produces clusters of flowers in shades of red, pink, yellow and white in late Spring and Summer. Useful for screening, informal hedges, seaside gardens and hot dry gardens. Water regularly after planting until established. Grows to 2 metres tall.
Wrightia antidysenterica (Arctic Snow)

A striking, compact shrub producing white as snow, star shaped flowers continuously over a long period. Grows in full sun to part shade in a well drained soil. Ideal in a pot as a specimen plant or a border in the garden. Grows to a height of 1 metre.
